Details

The Twyn/Cyfarthfa print Transition project involved Years 6 pupils working collaboratively on a digital print
design over a period that spanned the end of their summer term at the primary school and the start of the
autumn term at the high school. The design was to illustrate the transition from one place to the next, one
period of their lives to the next and use mapping and Aboriginal art as reference points.

Research was done using the internet on aerial and satelite images of Wales and Australia and Aboriginal
art galleries. There were 65 children working on the project. They were divided into groups to concentrate
their investigations on different aspectsof the locality and the "journey" between the two schools.

The children learned a lot about using the computer creatively and are now passing on their skills to others
in Cyfarthfa High School. It was obvious at the start of the new term in Cyfarthfa High that the children were
helped in their acclimatisation to their new surroundings by the fact that they were able to work on a project
with which they were already familiar and with an artist whom they knew on first name terms.

The project has been included on a BBC teacher training video which will be distributed to all Welsh schools
in April 2004.
