WORKSHOPS IN DESIGN, WEAVE and ICT - GENERAL INFORMATION

For information on multimedia and graphics projects, please click on the ICT botton to the left

A variety of workshops in design, weave and ICT can be provided covering the full range of primary and secondary school pupils and staff. The basic aims are to develop in the children an understanding of the design concept through the medium of tapestry weaving and to enable teachers to work in this medium in the future. The approach to this is adjusted to suit the various year groups and individual school situations. Where art and design in IT workshops are being done, the starting point is usually either drawing or basic weaving. The aim with this work is to encourage the efficient use of the computer as an art and design tool and develop confidence in using the computer generally.

The basic outlines of the projects are :

Discussion about weaving generally and tapestry weaving in history and around the world today. Examples of weaving and design work are shown.
Initial research work on chosen subject - this will include observational or imaginative drawing. Development of design ideas.
Practice of different weaving techniques.
Development and adaptation of design ideas as necessary throughout the production of the wall hanging(s).
Individual design development on the computer (using it appropriately).
Language work - reportage, creative writing (poetry and story writing).
ICT - Photos and text inc. childrens' writing and design work will be uploaded to my web site or written to a CD Rom.
Finishing the work and presenting it.
Evaluation of the project with teachers and children - this may be in the form of a CD Rom including images, text, sound and video.

NB. Critical discussion of the work is ongoing throughout the workshops. Planning and assessment notes are given with each project option.

All workshop options include In Service Training (INSET) where required.
