The pupils of Years 5 and 6 (9 - 11 yrs) worked on this project to produce a print and CD ROM about the history of Markham village. The history is a highly personal one which often focuses on aspects of working in the coal mine. Both the print design and the CD ROM include references to the landscape, the school, entertainment, the homes, childhood, working life and the pit.

The starting point for the design work was an investigation of the work of the artist Paul Klee. From there we used a range of techniques to gather and process images for use in the print and CD.

The interactive CD ROM includes illustrated stories from both the older members of the community and the children themselves. Many of the illustrations have been animated and the stories fascinating and entertaining. Some of the processed images and sound recordings can be seen by clicking on the links above.
