A statement about weaving made by Year 1 and 2 pupils after workshops dealing with texture.

Weaving Weaving is a kind of art. Clothes are made of weaving. You get some wool and thread it on to a needle. Then you go under and over the warp threads. Our weaving is about growing things. We used materials like feathers, ties, netting and belts. They had different textures. Some were fragile and delicate, some were squashy, some were fizzy.

The statement below was developed with year 2 children.

Weaving is a way to make things like clothes, carpets, furnishings and bedding. We are weaving pictures of colours and textures. We are using warm and cold colours. Our weaving is fun, it is about the natural and man made environment and winter clothes. We used materials like feathers, bubble wrap and foil - and blue material to show water. The textuires of some of the materials are squishy and squashy, cuddly and shiny, bumpy and hairy. These textures helped us to represent the grass, the plastic, the fleecy clothes in our tapestries.

Tapestry

by

Linsey Davies

Class 6S are working on a tapestry. We hope to finish it soon. It is called Clydach and its community. For homework we had to draw a building from Clydach. I drew the Vardre Hotel which was put in the tapestry. in the end, we did not put in any transport. Mr. Duncan brought in a big sheet of paper on which we did a design. We have got the canal going down the middle with the Vardre Hotel and the school in 3D along side. We even put in the lollipop lady. (Shhh ! Don't tell her !) While we were doing silent reading, Mr. Duncan put warp threads on the frame for us to start knotting. Then Mr. Duncan put the design sheet behind the frame and started to mark the warp threads he also set us targets. We started weaving over and under. We used three strands and three reaches of wool. We were told about tufting which we use to do peoples hair. I hope to finish it around Christmas. We had a few problems but we have now sorted them out. Let's hope it doesn't happen again. After a couple of weeks, we have finished. It looks so good. Soon it will be up in the hall for everyone to admire.
